Beginner Trails

4.5 km trail. Located South on Hwy 169. Turn West on Golf Course Rd and go 3 miles. Follow signs. Trails wind through 1900 Logging Camp and Virgin Timber. (See Appendix F for map of trail)

Legion Trail Hwy 38 & 14 th St. NW, Grand Rapids, MN
3.5 km trail. Beginner/Intermediate Trail. Located at American Legion Park near Grand Rapids High School just off of Hwy 38 N. Skate lane and classic tracks set. (See Appendix D for map of trail)

3.4 km trail. Beginner trail. Located West on Hwy 2 to Cohasset. Turn Left onto Cty Rd 87. One mile to Trailhead building. Lighted trails loop along the Mississippi River. Skate lane and classic tracks set.

Portage Park 218-328-6225 Lake St. & Cty Rd 63, Cohasset, MN 55721
2 mile trail. Located West of Grand Rapids on Hwy 2. Turn Left on Cty Rd 63 and go 2 miles. Turn Right on Lake St. to sports complex. Trail users can access the Bass Brook Wildlife Area cross-country ski trails that veer off from the paved trail.

8 km trail. Beginner trail. Located East of Grand Rapids on Hwy 169, just North of Itasca Community College. Trail winds through forest, including old-growth red and white pine. Maps along trail. Ski pass required. (See Appendix K)

10KM trail. Beginner to intermediate trails. Located East of Grand Rapids on Hwy 169 across Prairie River . Go 2 miles E on Cty Rd 21. Go 1 mile South on E. Rangeline Rd to gate. 1 mile to trailhead parking. Trail travels through young aspen and hardwood forest. Wildlife is abundant.

Big Ridge Trail 218-327-2855
10 km trail. Beginner to expert trails. Located from Goodland, 4 miles North on Hwy 65, then West on Cty Rd 560 for .5 mi to parking lot. Trail includes three loops, each at a different skill level (beginner to expert). Trail runs through rolling forest of hardwoods and evergreens. Expert loops include steep hills. Caution: snowmobile trail intersects this trail system. Maps along trail. Ski pass required. (See Appendix I for map of trail)

10 km trail. Intermediate to expert trails. Located East on Hwy 169 to Coleraine. Turn West on Cty Rd 61 to railroad track. Hilly terrain for skate and classic. Biathlon range. Snowmaking facilities. chalet.

10 km trail. Beginner to intermediate trails. Located 13 miles North on Hwy 38 from Grand Rapids . Turn East on Cty Rd 60 and go 1 mile. Turn North on Cty Rd 335 and go 2 miles. Double tracked classic ski 3 miles out to Historic site and return. (See Appendix G for map of trail)

9.7 km trail. Beginner to intermediate trails. Located 7 miles North of Grand Rapids on Hwy 38. Turn NE on Cty Rd 49 and go 8 miles. Continue East on Cty Rd 59 for .5 mi. Trail offers five loops to choose from in a mixed forest. River loop follows Wabana Creek. Clearwater Lake lies south of the trail system. (See Appendix J for map of trail)

6.9 km trail. Beginner to intermediate trails. Located 12 miles North of Grand Rapids on Hwy 38. Turn West on Cty Rd 19 and go 2 miles. Turn right on Cty Rd 246. Trail features challenging trails through rolling hills and mixed forest. A spur trail at the far end of the loop connects to the southern portion of the Suomi Hills Recreation Area in the Chippewa National Forest. (See Appendix H for map of trail)

Blueberry Hills Trail 218-246-8195
12 km trail. Mostly intermediate level trails. Located from Deer River 2.25 miles North on Hwy 6. Go 2.5 miles East on Chase Lake Rd, then .5 miles Right on Chasewood Drive . Trail runs through pine and hardwood forest on shores of Chase lake, with gently rolling to steep hills. Skate and classic. Ski pass required. (See Appendix E for map of trail)

28 km trail. Intermediate to expert trails. Located 7 miles South of Grand Rapids on Hwy 169. Turn West on Cty Rd 17 and go 4 miles. Turn South on Cty Rd 449. Trails boast challenging, hilly terrain through hardwood forest. Skate and classic. (See Appendix D for map of trail)

34.3 km trail. Beginner to expert trails. Located about 9 miles South of Marcell (or 14 miles North of Grand Rapids) off Hwy 38, along the "Edge of the Wilderness" National Scenic Byway. Trail runs through rolling hills, lakes, and forest. Short stretches of trail suitable for beginner or intermediate skiers, but majority of trail is for expert skiers. Maps along trail. 18 mile trail. Located from Grand Rapids 12 miles south on Hwy 169. Trail runs through 1400 acres of hills, maple forest, and golf course on the shores of Hill Lake. Maps along trail.

16 km trail. Located 7 miles southeast of Bigfork at 56956 Cty Rd 7. Also 32 miles N of Hwy 169. Visitors can ski the Chase Point Trail for hypnotic views of Coon and Sandwick Lakes. Chasepoint Campground remains open year-round. (See Appendix K)

20 km trail. Mostly intermediate level trails. Located from Deer River 18 miles NW on Hwy 46 to Cut Foot Sioux Visitor Center at Junction of Hwy 46. Access also from Eagle Nest Resort.
